Car 50 – 1968 Mustang Convertible 4.7 V8
I have owned my 1968 model year Mustang convertible since 1995. Originally painted in Wimbledon White, it was restored in 1998 when the colour was changed to the much more exciting Chrome Yellow. I celebrated the completion of the restoration by taking the Mustang on the classic American Road Trip – 4,800 miles from Boston, Massachusetts to Los Angeles, California. The route of this 3-week trip covered much of the infamous Route 66 and included stops in Chicago, St Louis, Dallas, San Antonio, The Grand Canyon and Death Valley, to name just a few. Later that same year, it was imported into Britain and has been maintained regardless of expense ever since. The convertible roof was completely replaced in 2012.
This year, the interior has undergone an overhaul – the Mustang is now looking better than ever!
This Mustang is equipped with a 3-speed automatic gearbox and has a 289 cu in. (4.7 litres) V8 engine. The engine has been completely stripped, rebuilt and converted to run on unleaded petrol – it still only manages about 12 miles per gallon!
